Polis (pl.: poleis) means 'city' in Ancient Greek. The ancient word polis had socio-political connotations not possessed by modern usage. For example, Modern Greek 蟺蠈位畏 (p贸li), "city", is located within a 蠂蠋蟻伪 (ch贸ra), "country", which is a 蟺伪蟿蟻委未伪 (patr铆da) or "native land" for its citizens.
