Things I learned today at the Herculaneum papyri symposium:

1 / Antonio Piaggio invented a machine in the late 1700s to unroll burned papyri. (Lots of groans from the audience abt this.) You can see the machine in Piaggio's Wikipedia article: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antonio...

"Flat-Earthers argue that NASA manipulates and fabricates its satellite images, based on observations that the color of the oceans changes from image to image and that continents seem to be in different places."

So they probably think other planets are a NASA fiction too

But there are 7 other non-split extensions! These give nontrivial elements of the cohomology group H²(P, ℤ³).

Thus, the hardest part of classifying all 13 monoclinic space groups is figuring out H²(P, ℤ³) for all 6 choices of P and its action on ℤ³.

ouch - the trumpal arch will be tiny!

the triumphal arch in 'germania' (formerly known as 'berlin') was designed to be 117 meter high (117 meter = 384 ft) and 170 meter wide (170 meter = 558 ft).

come on america, you can do better!
