First of all, I would like to say that for a fighting game, this is a great introduction for beginners, I started grinding this game about 5 months ago, and it's taught me a lot about mechanics that usually wouldn't be popular/ and or used in due time, and a lot of these mechanics can be applied to Ultimate as well
Second, a lot of the competitive community gives the game a lot of flack due to it's more slower pacing and overall, usage of the trip mechanic introduced in this entry
A lot of where this game really shines is in it's single player mode, The Subspace Emissary, which is praised for it's deep and engaging storytelling, making it a worthwhile entry point in the smash series
Finally, I would like to mention that, although true that this game is very flawed and honestly pretty janky at times, it's still really fun to play, and for newcomers I'd recommend brawl compared to earlier or later entries, due to it's less competitive gameplay, and overall skill you can learn from this entry.
